Last night I drove back down to Souther California. 6 1/2 hours of driving at 65 mph about the whole way, over a couple of small passes...and the car had no problems. “I have a 1992 Ford Explorer with a 4.0L V6 engine. During this recent hot summer, I started to experience combustion pressures in my coolant system. I have talked to a few auto repair shops that said 4.0L Ford V motors are prone to this type of head gasket failure. This caused the coolant system to become over pressurized and would cause steam to blow out the thermostat gasket. Upon closer inspection, the coolant was foaming and bubbly. I was not planning on keep the vehicle very long but this issue made the vehicle not usable and to have the vehicle repaired by replacing the head gaskets would have cost more than the vehicles worth.
